Visitors to Britain
With Richard Baker.
4: Chopin. Many musicians who visited Britain from abroad have done very well, but Chopin was one who hated this country. Already terminally ill when he arrived, he found little understanding of his art among his patrons. Prince Albert, however, was a great supporter, who would stand by the piano and watch as Chopin played. Music includes:
Chopin Nocturne in E flat, Op 55 No 2 Richard Goode (piano)
Piano Concerto No 2 in F minor
(3rd mvt) Maria Joao Pires , Royal
Philharmonic, conductor Andre Previn Ballade No 2 in F, Op 38 Artur Rubinstein (piano)
Etudes, Op 10 Nos 3 and 4 Frederic Chiu (piano)
