Music by Viktor Ullmann The Emperor of Atlantis was written for performance in Thereslenstadt, the concentration camp in northern Czechoslovakia, and completed there in 1944. The opera was rehearsed but its performance was prohibited, possibly because of its anti-Hitler, anti-war subject, and both Ullmann and Kien perished in Auschwitz.
