Sally Magnusson tells the warm and moving story of Eric Liddell , the unorthodox but brilliant runner who in 1924 astounded the world with his Olympic gold medal and then caused consternation by going off to China to serve God -only to meet an untimely death in a Japanese internment camp. Almost 40 years later he became world-famous as one of the central figures in the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire. with Florence Liddell Hall , his widow, Jenny Somerville , his sister, fellow athletes, fellow missionaries and fellow internees.
