Bangkok, 1862: King Mongkut of Siam hires recently widowed Englishwoman Anna Leonowens to tutor his son. When she arrives at the palace, Anna's total faith in the Western way of life is undermined by British attempts to foster war with Burma. Meanwhile, she also becomes involved in the King's more personal affairs.
