Along with lyricists Oscar Hammerstein II and Lorenz Hart, composer Richard Rodgers wrote over 1,000 songs and some 42 shows, including Carousel, The King and I, South Pacific, Oklahoma and, of course, The Sound of Music.
Tonight, Gene Kelly and Henry Winkler introduce a star-studded musical tribute to Richard Rodgers, celebrating 50 years of his music and showmanship.
The artists appearing include Sammy Davis Jr, Diahann Carroll, Lena Horne, Peggy Lee, Vic Damone, Sandy Duncan and Cloris Leachman along with some classic film-clips featuring, amongst others, MARY MARTIN, EZIO PINZA, BING CROSBY, AL JOLSON, MAURICE CHEVALIER and JULIE ANDREWS
