' Colossus' - the Ship that Lost a Fortune: Realisation
After the successful start to the Colossus excavation in 1975, Dr Ann Birchall , the archaeological director, was faced with the mammoth task of sorting and reconstructing the thousands of fragments of ancient Greek pottery that had been recovered from the sea-bed on the Isles of Scilly.
Would it be possible to recreate any of the lost vases from Sir William Hamilton's collection? For DR BIRCHALL the work of the Colossus unit set up at the British Museum, has led to the realisation of a personal ambition and the first completed vase.
An intense and moving film.
