The Emperor's New Clothes
Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto, known as the ' Emperor', sounds very different in modern performances compared with those of Beethoven's time. Orchestral instruments and layouts have changed and many misunderstandings have arisen through 19th-century editorial attitudes.
