British film-makers are currently enjoying new esteem. David Putt nam, producer of the award-winning Chariots of Fire, and Bill Forsyth , who recently made his name with the low-budget Gregory's Girl, are two of the people responsible for the improving image of British films. Recently they combined their talents to make Local Hero, but, as they tell Quentin Falk in tonight's Guardian Lecture, the British film industry needs more positive financial backing if it is to produce further triumphs.
