for Advent Sunday
Sutherland in the far northwest of Scotland is a land of empty moors, peat-brown streams and forbidding mountains. A country where sheep outnumber people by ten to one. It's a harsh landscape whose biblical severity makes a strong faith essential, and where the good news of Advent and the coming of the Lord seems particularly welcome.
Ian Gall finds himself caddying for the Minister of Domoch Cathedral on the Royal Dornoch Golf Course and meeting people from every corner of the county, who come together in the cathedral to sing their Advent hymns.
Hills of the north (Little Cornard); Jesus calls us (St Andrew); Trust and obey; I waited for the Lord (Ballerma); The Lord's my shepherd (Orlington); O brother man (Londonderry Air); Approach my soul the mercy seat (Stracathro); Hark the glad sound (Bristol).
