Three Men in a Boat

on BBC Two England

1/2. Griff Rhys Jones , Dara O'Briain , Rory McGrath and a nervous dog called Loli set out in a wooden skiff. Launching in Kingston, Surrey, they retrace a journey up the Thames immortalised by Jerome K Jerome in his comic tale Three Men in a Boat. Along the way they drop in on David Gilmour of Pink Floyd and Antony Worrall Thompson. However, halfway to Oxford, Rory and Dara are in the pub while Griff is left to prepare supper. Will the two come back?

Entertainment: Three Men in a Boat: 9.00pm BBC2
This larky travelogue went down well in January (though some viewers found the language a bit strong) and now gets a welcome repeat at the height of summer, where it's more at home.
It's a simple idea: three comedians mess about in a rowing boat to re-create Jerome K Jerome's famous trip up the Thames. Something in the chemistry between Griff Rhys Jones, Rory McGrath and Dara O'Briain works a treat, and the result is very, very funny in the way that only silly, off-the-cuff, joshing comedy can be.
There's loads to enjoy here, including a visit to David Gilmour of Pink Floyd's palatial houseboat studio, a scurrilous anecdote about David Seaman, a prickly meeting between O'Briain and Antony Worrall Thompson, and some delightful scenery. Concludes next Monday. (David Butcher)
