Saturday Review

on BBC Two England

The last in the current series of the arts and media magazine presented by Russell Davies, including:

Film: No Surrender is Alan Bleasedale's feature film-writing debut, Michael Angelis - who played Chrissie in Boys from the Blackstuff - stars with Bernard Hill, Elvis Costello and Joanne Whalley in this surreal black comedy of orange and green rivalries, set in Liverpool's clubland.

Print: Patricia Highsmith's new thriller Found in the Street is set in New York's Greenwich Village where she spent her youth. Unusually for Highsmith, the victim rather than the killer is at the heart of this novel.

Theatre: a new Stratford stage for the RSC - the Swan Theatre rises from the ashes of the original Shakespeare Memorial Theatre which was burnt out in 1926. Artistic Director Trevor Nunn explains how the company hopes to make a popular success of the works of Shakespeare's contemporaries.
