'The man of a thousand faces' stars as Quasimodo in the first, and possibly finest, version of Victor Hugo 's novel, presented in a specially tinted version with organ soundtrack.
In the reign of Louis XI, the beggars of Paris plan to revolt against the king. But Quasimodo, the deformed and inarticulate bell-ringer of Notre Dame, is more concerned with his hopeless love for Esmeralda, a dancing gypsy girl who befriends the lonely creature.
