Geoffrey Smith's World of Flowers: Primulas

on BBC Two England

The fifth of ten programmes.
The plants grown in our gardens are some of the richest and most varied in the world. But very few of them are native to this country.
'If I was asked', says Geoffrey Smith, 'to encapsulate spring in one word, it would be primroses.' In this programme he traces the history and origins of the primrose (primula) family and shows how important the discoveries of Asiatic species have proved to be.
