Six programmes in which
Sir John Drummond meets leading architects in the field of the arts and celebrates their visions and achievements.
5: Dramatis Personae
Theatres are machines that generate emotion, but many new buildings went wrong: the actors somehow felt alone. Consultants are redesigning stages that link the performers to the punters and vice versa - by ripping out interiors and wallpapering the sides with people. But should we destroy our recent past? Do we, the actors, or the architects own buildings?
With Sir Phillip Powell on Chichester, Richard Pilbrow on his redesigns, and Sir Denys Lasdun on the National Theatre.
