Eight films on eight centuries of British Architecture.
2: A New Heaven, a New Earth: The Tudor Renaissance Written and narrated by Roy Strong
The Tudor and Elizabethan age was a period of great social turmoil and artistic splendour. In this film ROY STRONG, director of the Victoria and Albert Museum , shows how those twin upheavals in English life, the Reformation and the Renaissance, were reflected in architecture. In the golden age of Elizabeth's reign, vast palaces for the new rich were built from the stones of ruined abbeys; state replaced church; and brick gave way to the marble of the Italian Renaissance.
