Family Therapy

on BBC Two England

Second in a series of six programmes penetratingthe world of therapy.
Filmed over nine months in both the consulting room and at home, it follows the progress of a family as they seek help with their problems.
Sara. Seventeen years old and, from her parents' point of view, a seriously confused adolescent, Sara lurches from boyfriend to boyfriend but has no girlfriends to speak of. She has been depressed for years and has at times spoken of suicide. Her parents are beside themselves with worry but their patience is running out. Therapist Dr Asen confronts them with the possibility that they may have restricted her emotional development through an overprotective attitude. By continually treating Sara as an untrustworthy child, they have, he suggests, become part of the problem and should shoulder responsibility for the plight in which theiryounger daughter now finds herself.
