On the death of Saul, we follow the fortunes of David - one time shepherd-lad, court-favourite and guerrilla leader - now the first king of a united Judah and Israel. This unification was heralded by a macabre encounter ' by the Pool of Gideon.' (II Samuel Ch 2 v 13)
