John Peel

on BBC Radio 1 England

John says: Recently a correspondent begged us to stop playing records by Scandinavian groups. "They are," he insisted, "unfailingly frightful." Despite this plea, tonight's programme features records from Sweden. Finland and, if I can find any in time. Denmark and Norway. Selection is limited, inevitably. to the records mailed to the BBC from abroad, or left at Broadcasting House by tourists. but we hope to demonstrate that despite a tendency for " Europunks to call themselves Karl-Heinz Manure or Lars Orders, such bands as DAF and Abwarts. Sweden's TT Reuter and Garbochock and Finland's Ebba Gron prove that European new-wavers are not merely imitative of British bands.'
