Claire Martin introduces a concert by the BBC Big Band, directed by William Russo , recorded before an invited audience at the BBC Radio Theatre in March. Russo was chief composer and arranger of the Stan Kenton Orchestra in the fifties and directed the London Jazz Orchestra in the seventies. The programme today features many of the compositions from that time, including his English Concerto for violin and jazz orchestra (soloist Katharine Gowers ). Producer Keith Loxam.
