Meditation and the Mind
What is it that can remove your anxieties, change your personality, increase your intelligence, improve your health, make you better at your job and yet only take 30 minutes of your time a day? The answer, according to its practitioners, is Transcendental Meditation.
Brought to the West by MAHARISIU MAHESH YOGI, TM has come a long way since the days when the Beatles embraced the practice in a blaze of publicity. Today nearly a million people including leading figures in business, government, education and medicine regularly sit down to meditate twice a day. Its success is largely due to scientific experiments which seem to show dramatic improvements in every area of life. But are these impressive results as clear-cut as they seem? Are the reported changes really due to meditation or to other less tangible factors? And if the improvements in individuals are real, can we believe, as meditators now do, that TM is set to solve, within this generation, the age-old problems of mankind?
