Prisoners' Families - the Silent Sentence

on BBC Two England

What effect does a criminal sentence have on the loved ones of a prisoner? This documentary gains access to prisons across Britain to explore how relationships can survive in adversity or fall apart under pressure. The film follows Rubina, whose partner is an alcoholic and gambling addict; Dave, a convicted arsonist, whose partner Becky has given birth while he is in prison; and Claire, who is serving six years for aggravated burglary, and whose daughter Lia Jade was born in prison and lives with her mother in the mother-and-baby unit of New Hall Prison.
