Just before Mrs Patrick Campbell died in France on the eve of the Second World War she wrote to Bernard Shaw: ' What will happen to the old letters. I wonder? I've stuffed them all into an old battered hatbox and I hide them under the bed at night.*
This play is based on the exchange of those letters that passed between two theatrical comets from 1809-1939.
