The Kirov Ballet Company has preserved the purest tradition of classical ballet, cut off as it has been until recently from western influences. Now perestroika has opened the doors and it must face new challenges - keeping the best of the past but allowing its magnificent dancers to benefit from all that is happening in the world of dance.
