Designs on Europe

on BBC Two England

Europe is experiencing not just political and economic change, its towns and cities, too, are being transformed. This series of films, each made by a different European country, profiles six very different architects who are contributing to the look of the new Europe.
1: Britain's Michael Hopkins. His hi-tech designs are uncompromisingly modern and have won him a string of awards, but they also seem to go down well with the public. This BBC film examines the Hopkins touch at
Lord's cricket ground and a bottling plant in Suffolk, his plans for
Glyndebourne and the House of Commons as well as the more traditional approach he takes to restoring the ruined farm buildings he bought in Tuscany. Producer Roger Last
