Wheels of Fire

on BBC Two England

The last of ten films about development issues in India.
' Next Year, Maybe....'
Since 1977, when the Left Front (Marxist) government came to power in West Bengal, its Comprehensive Area Development Cor. poration has been attempting to introduce some radical changes in 20 districts throughout the state. One is Sonamukhi, about 100 miles from Calcutta, where the panchayat (the village council) has been very active in promoting these changes for the benefit of the rural poor.
