Intimate Strangers
A marine worm with plants living inside it; a vine which persuades ants to protect it from butterflies; a ' committee ' of animals which live inside an Australian termite: these are some of the strange symbiotic relationships investigated tonight.
It used to be thought that symbiosis was a rarity-one of nature's parlour tricks. Now scientists are finding that all living things, including man, depend on it to survive.
