Where Do the Children Play?
If you climb to the top of a high-rise block near the Angel and look out across Islington you won't see much in the way of recreation areas. But just off the City Road lies the City Basin, a stretch of water which at weekends is alive with children bustling about in canoes, rowing boats and sailing dinghies.
The Islington Boat Club is four years old and has about 600 members aged nine to fifteen, all able to swim. Some older boys who have been members since the club started still help out, repairing boats and keeping an eye on the younger children.
