The first of two programmes from the city, once one of England's capitals. Nine hundred years later; William the Conqueror's great' Cathedral Church of St Peter, St Paul and St Swithin, a link with that past, is at the centre of birthday celebrations.
Michael Barratt has been talking to local people, who are joined this week by the Cathedral Choir in one of Europe's finest churches.
