A View of the Islands: Escape to Nature

on BBC Two England

Introduced by Jeffery Boswall
The mild southern climate of the Channel Islands, which brings on the early produce for export and the influx of tourists, also means a fauna and flora different from Britain's. Rare wild orchids, moths like the Jersey Tiger, unusual plovers and warblers, and the coveted ormer - a giant limpet - are among the specialities.
The islands too are a special home for myriads of seabirds, and boast one of the newest gannetries in Europe and the largest stormy petrel assembly in the world.
