Half-a-million British workers will retire this year. Better health and earlier retirement promise many of them 20 or 30 years of life after work. Rich or poor, they are the fastest growing sector of the population, and their existence has been described as the greatest challenge to Western society since the Industrial Revolution.
Helen Boaden investigates how ready people are to face the finishing line, with the help of 400 older workers on a pre-retirement course by the sea.
