Tobacco - Smoke without Fire?
The Government has just introduced a tough new health warning - smoking kills - as part of its commitment to cut the number of smokers by a third in the next ten years. Yet ministers intend to oppose the draft EC directive which would ban all advertising which glamorises cigarettes when the crucial vote is taken in Brussels next month. Peter Taylor examines the growing arguments about the importance of tobacco advertising amid accusations of double standards all round.
