' The Music Makers ' is a setting of a poem extolling the music-makers and the dreamers of dreams as ' movers and shakers of the world '. The dream that was scorned yesterday becomes the reality of today. The music-makers, their ' souls with high music ringing ', are hailed by those who yearn for the brighter future.
It is notable that in this setting the composer has introduced a few brief quotations from some of his own major works-the symphonies, the ' Enigma ' Variations, The Dream of Gerontius, and others.
