25 BLOODY YEARS Essential History of the Troubles

on BBC Two England

The Loyalists
The companion film to Monday's piece on the nationalists examines the development of Loyalist sentiment over the years of the Troubles.
Ulster Loyalists believe that they have been repeatedly betrayed by Westminster governments, all the way from Partition in 1921 to the Downing Street Declaration of 1993. Many claim that the violent IRA campaign has succeeded in squeezing concessions from the British government, and so Loyalist extremists have increasingly adopted the same murderous tactics.
These two film histories can be see again, together, next Saturday afternoon.
