One summer evening in 1976, Gary Gilmore shot dead a petrol station attendant. The following night he killed the manager of a motel. From his prison cell in Utah he demanded that he be executed by firing squad.
After prolonged legal battles the execution took place - the first in a decade in the USA. Part 1: April 1976, Illinois.
35-year-old Gary Gilmore is released on parole from the federal prison and joins his cousin Brenda Nicol in Provo, Utah. After a spell working for his benign uncle,
Vem Damico , he changes jobs and meets Nicole Baker , an attractive 19-year-old mother of two. Falling in love, they begin a tempestuous relationship that leads to impossible tensions on both sides.
