Rita Walden is chic and attractive, seemingly happily married and yet strangely dissatisfied. When her mother dies suddenly, her husband suggests a trip to Europe in an attempt to resolve the crisis in their marriage. It is a trip that will traumatically affect their lives. Both Joanne Woodward and Sylvia Sidney received Oscar nominations for their roles.
