Trials of Life: 3: The Handicap

on BBC Two England

A series about human beings selecting human beings narrated and produced by Roger Mills
From cradle to grave, we are all on trial - awaiting some verdict. It can be 'pass' or 'fail.' It can be 'accepted' or 'rejected.'

The 11-plus-the first of life's great turning-points. Fail it - and you may never get another chance for the rest of your life. The grammar-school place and the entree to the scholarship stream of a comprehensive are both in the hands of the selectors. But some children are handicapped in the competition for such awards - boys and girls from deprived backgrounds.
