The Lively Arts - In Performance

on BBC Two England

Robin Ray introduces the Te Deum by BERLIOZ
When it was first shown last year in a live relay from the Whitworth Hall of Manchester University, this production of Berlioz's resounding Te Deum was hailed as ' a spectacular success ... a visual as well as aural triumph.'
Written, as so often with Berlioz, for huge forces - tenor soloist, three choirs, organ and orchestra - the Te Deum is being repeated as part of the Jubilee celebrations, to mark the outstanding contribution of the choral tradition to British music-making. John Elwes (tenor)
