Presenter Fisher Dilke attempts to explain one of the most unpredictable problems in science - turbulence. It was attributed as the cause of the 1985 Delta air crash in Dallas when 132 people died after their plane fell from the sky, and the unexpected hurricanes that flattened southern England in 1987. Mathematicians are aware of the equations governing the phenomenon but cannot predict or control it and the American government is now spending millions on trying to solve the problem.
