Pauline is a black woman who lives in white South Africa. She works as a domestic servant, one of the few occupations she is allowed to follow since her life is so narrowly circumscribed by the laws of apartheid. Sue MacGregor shared that life for a day, in the house of the white family for whom she works in Cape Town, and on a visit to her sister's place in a nearby black township, thousands of miles from her real home in the Transkei.
