The 1983 International Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival
Two thousand years ago the Chinese poet and statesman Chu Yuan threw himself into a river as a protest against corruption. The local fishermen took to their boats, splashing with their oars and tossing dumplings into the water to distract the monsters and fish from the hero's body. Now it is an international event in Hong Kong attracting nine overseas teams, including Great Britain, as well as around 80 local teams. Narrated by David Vine
