Forty Minutes: Rabbits Don't Cry

on BBC Two England

A series of films portraying issues, institutions and individuals.

Man's inhumanity to animals is well documented, largely condemned - and totally condoned.
In the name of scientific progress and food production, the vivisector continues to experiment, the farmer herds his stock into life imprisonment - and a nation of animal-lovers turns a blind eye.
But this year protest has grown louder. Polite objections have become heated arguments. At the extreme, action has taken over from argument altogether. The moral obligation to free animals from batteries and laboratories is held to justify a technical infringement of the law. So the animal liberators are breaking and entering, photographing, recording and freeing cats and dogs and rabbits and chickens from the battery, the electrode, and the forced inhaler.
