While Doreen proudly demonstrates her new digger to her sceptical mother, some of her neighbours campaign against her latest plan - to use the new digger to extend her quarry inside the Peak District National Park.

Filmed during the long, hot summer of 1996, this film goes to the very heart of British attitudes towards class and "not in my backyard", as incomers and indigenous locals do battle for a small comer of England.
