Rich Man, Poor Man...: Trade

on BBC Two England

How much does a cup of tea really cost? What is the real price of a bar of chocolate?
This programme, the second in a series of six on the widening gap between the rich countries and the poor, examines the tea trade with Ceylon and the cocoa trade with Ghana.
John Percival compares the standards of living of rich and poor people involved in both trades and asks some very fundamental questions about the ideas that govern trade. In a world of limited resources how long can we go on buying cheap and selling dear, promising ourselves an ever-rising standard of living, ever-rising expectations of greater prosperity to come?
