Composer of the Week: Lutoslawski

on BBC Radio 3

2: Farewell to Folklore: 1949-58
Lutoslawski attempted to keep a low profile throughout the 1950s, working as a staff composer for Polish radio, writing children's songs and music for films and the theatre. The Concerto for Orchestra, a commission for the Warsaw
Philharmonic Orchestra, established Lutoslawski as the country's leading composer. Afterthis he drew a line under what had been a profoundly difficult time and took the first of several steps towards developing a highly personal musical language. Presented by Donald Macleod.
