Piano Trio in C, Op. 87 played by the Long-Kersey-White-head Trio
The second of Brahms's three piano trios, in C major, was written in 1882 and represents Brahms at his greatest. All but the closely woven finale are large-scale movements worked out with superb imagination and richness of detail, and in its emotional range the Trio is not far short of all-embracing : feelings of mystery, pathos, humour, passion, and exhilaration are evoked in this magnificent work.
