At the 40th Anniversary United Nations Day Concert, recorded last month at the General Assembly Hall in New York, the NHK Symphony Orchestra from Japan played Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. Earlier, the young Chinese violinist Jin Li joined his teacher Sir Yehudi Menuhin to perform Bach's Concerto in D minor, for two violins and string orchestra.
Also in tonight's programme is the UN Hymn composed by Pablo Casals and Etenraku, a traditional work from the Japanese court transcribed for modern orchestra by Hidemaro Konoye
