World Cinema: Kameradschaft

on BBC Two England

The last of three films by the famous German director - Georg W. Pabst
Starring Fritz Hampers, Alexander Granach, Ernst Busch, Elisabeth Wendt

Pabst's passionate plea for an international peace founded on working-class solidarity, although set after the Versailles Treaty, was based on an actual mining disaster which occurred at the beginning of the century near the French-German border. On that occasion (as in the film) the German miners went to the aid of their French colleagues.
