Michael Sandel examines the ethical issues arising from the coronavirus pandemic with a panel of contributors, including from China, Norway, South Korea, Brazil, Germany and the hard-hit Italian city of Bergamo.
They debate whether it can ever be morally justified to stockpile goods or to raise prices sharply; whether governments should have new powers to monitor citizens’ movements, e.g. by accessing information from their mobile phones; and if there is a shortage of ventilators, how should the agonizing decision be made about who should be allowed to die?
