Renée Fleming soprano
Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra
Sakari Oramo conductor

One of the most glamorous and celebrated musicians of our time, soprano Renée Fleming returns to the Proms to join Sakari Oramo and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra for the shimmering 'transformation' music that closes Richard Strauss's opera Daphne, and Samuel Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915, a nostalgic portrait of America in a simpler age. The orchestra also brings a recent work by the young Swedish composer Andrea Tarrodi - Liguria, a vivid musical 'walking tour' through Italian fishing villages.

The concert is introduced by Andrew McGregor and opera historian Sarah Lenton who has a special interest in 19th and 20th century vocal music.
