The Society for the Promotion of New Music (President, Dr. Ralph Vaughan Williams, O.M.) is a non-profit-making organisation whose monthly studio recitals and periodic experimental rehearsals of new orchestral works have helped greatly to encourage and establish our younger composers.
The New Music recitals broadcast by the Third Programme have often included compositions first performed and discussed by the Society, and the permanence of their pioneer activities is embodied in a recently issued list of recommended works, from which this programme has been chosen.
The Society was founded in 1943 by Francis Chagrin, and tonight's broadcast is in recognition of its constant support for New Music. Harry Croft-Jackson
